Hanabira-mochi

Hanabira-mochi ( hanabira: literally means flower petal, mochi: rice cake )
A dessert that used to be eaten by the Imperial family at special events coinciding with the beginning of the year
but it is now a familiar New Year sweet.
In the center of a hanabira-mochi is a layer of anko, a sweet white beanpaste and
a thin strip of sweetly flavoured burdock.
